Saucon Rotarians at the Iron Pigs Game
Americans for Native Americans
Our club is collecting money for school supplies for Native American children in New Mexico.  We ask that members and friends consider donating between $20-$1,000,000 over the next 2 weeks.  Donations will be sent through the organization Americans for Native Americans during the third week of August.  Thanks in your advance for your donations ----  we had this group come to speak to us last year and have been looking for opportunities to work with them.
Contact Linda Young for more information.

Highlights From Our Last Meeting
We enjoyed new member Vivien McIndoe's classification talk (green shirt in the Iron Pigs picture.)
Fun facts about Vivien:
  • She's from Newark, DE
  • She enjoys hiking, kayaking, walking, photography, and all of nature, including the bugs.
  • She has 2 cats: Vinnie, who is 21 years old, and Shasta, a  younger rescue who just wants to play with Vinnie (Vinnie says no way!)
  • She attended West Virginia University and achieved a BS in Forestry.
  • She is a certified arborist.
  • She works for Bartlett Tree Experts, a family-owned business based in Emmaus providing scientific-based tree care.  She works both in sales and production tree care.
  • She decided to join Rotary because she is committed to community volunteering and has also been involved with animal welfare groups, food banks.
Tips About Trees from Vivien:
  • Don't get them "topped." It weakens the structural support of the tree.
  • Think of the future when landscaping. Don't crowd trees.
  • Be aware of safety issues in case of storms.
  • Most of all, ask questions if you are concerned about something.
We also heard from Tom Griffith, our Camp Neidig student. Tom is going into his senior year at Moravian Academy and thanked us for sponsoring him  According to Tom, Camp Neidig all about leadership development. He learned the importance of building networks, setting goals, and problem solving.  His most impactful lesson was the importance of being an effective communicator and a good listener.
