District Governor, Doug Cook Visits Club

DG Doug Cook                              President Ray with DG Doug                         DG Doug with Members of Board
Doug made his annual club visit to us on Tuesday, September 29th.  He told us that our job as Rotarians is to Have Fun, Increase our Membership, Support The Rotary Foundation, and Do Good in our Communities.  He explained that it is his experience that people join Rotary to do good, network, and find new friendships.  He encouraged us to tell our personal Rotary stories when speaking to our friends and those who express interest in what we do.  He insists that wearing the Rotary Pin shows that we belong to an organization that cares about people.  Wearing it is a walking advertisement!
Betty Lou's Food Pantry - Chris Page

Chris Page, Director of Betty Lou's Food Pantry in Coopersburg told us that the Food Pantry has been in existence since the mid 1970's when it was founded by a woman in her home to help vets returning from the Viet Nam War.  It moved to St. James Church basement in the 80's and was overseen by Betty Lou Klauser for 20+ years.  The Southern Lehigh Area Churches became involved and now provide the weekly volunteers needed to distribute the food.  It started serving 15 families and is now serving 115 families with 450 people.  They are aligned with the 2nd Harvest Food Bank and conduct 2 BIG food drives per year with the Boy Scouts and Mail Carriers.
Their biggest challenge right now is space.  They are hoping to eventually get a new building that is more spacious and handicapped accessible.  They are in the planning stages and are gaining momentum towards meeting this need.
President Ray presented Chris with a check for $800.  This was raised from our Putt U and Bike Ride Fund Raisers.
